The Coast Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs) recently hosted a Capacity Building Workshop on 2027 Election Preparedness held at the Mazrui Conference Facility in Tudor, Mombasa. The training was attended by our staff at MYM participated in the training that also brought together representatives from civil society and faith-based organizations across the Coast region to strengthen their understanding of Kenya’s electoral processes and their role in promoting democratic governance.
The session served as an important platform for learning, dialogue, and collaboration as stakeholders prepare for the upcoming 2027 General Elections. Participants gained valuable insights into the legal and regulatory framework governing political parties in Kenya, as well as the mandate and functions of the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP). Discussions also highlighted the institution’s preparedness and strategic role in ensuring compliance, accountability, and effective management of political party affairs ahead of the elections.
A key focus of the training was Kenya’s broader electoral framework. Participants explored the laws governing elections and examined the preparedness of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in managing and overseeing the electoral process. These discussions provided a deeper understanding of the institutions responsible for safeguarding democratic processes and ensuring credible elections.
The session also underscored the critical role that Civil Society Organizations and Faith-Based Organizations play in promoting democratic governance, civic education, peacebuilding, and electoral integrity. Through community engagement and advocacy, these organizations serve as vital partners in fostering informed citizen participation and strengthening public confidence in electoral processes.
In addition, participants explored how technology can be leveraged to enhance electoral preparedness, transparency, and accountability. As digital tools continue to shape electoral systems worldwide, understanding their potential and associated challenges is increasingly important for stakeholders working to support credible and inclusive elections.
The knowledge and skills gained from this capacity-building session will strengthen our ability to contribute meaningfully to civic engagement initiatives and democratic governance efforts. It will also enhance our role in promoting voter awareness, electoral transparency, and citizen participation as the country prepares for the 2027 General Elections.
