We recently held an inspiring and impactful cookout session with the girls, creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where meaningful conversations could flourish. While sharing a meal and enjoying each other’s company, we also took time to discuss important issues that affect many young people today.
The session focused on raising awareness about Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Through guided discussions, open dialogue, and shared experiences, the girls were encouraged to ask questions, express their thoughts, and support one another in a judgment-free space.
We highlighted the importance of understanding their rights, recognizing harmful situations, and knowing where and how to seek help when needed. These conversations reinforced a powerful message: knowledge is a key tool for protection, empowerment, and positive change.
More than just a cookout, the gathering was an opportunity to build confidence, resilience, and stronger connections among the girls. As we continue creating spaces for learning and empowerment, we are reminded that informed and confident girls become powerful agents of change within their families, schools, and communities.
Together, we are fostering a future where every girl feels heard, supported, and empowered to thrive.
